Yucatán, Mexico — Freddy Poot Sosa, a researcher of Maya culture in Yucatán, has stated that the federal government must increase promotion of the Tren Maya so that in the near future, this major work of the Fourth Transformation becomes profitable and generates healthy public finances.
He added that the Tren Maya has not functioned at one hundred percent as the Federal Government expected, since according to data from economists, it generates more expenses than income and is not being profitable in its finances as expected in its construction project.
He pointed out that those who visit the Yucatán Peninsula, whether nationals or foreigners, seek tourist bus services to visit important areas of Yucatán, Campeche, and Quintana Roo because the service is much easier and more comfortable, and what tourists seek is to save time and money on their trips.
He emphasized that the problem with the Tren Maya is that it is very slow, very time-consuming, and presents service failures, which especially frustrates foreigners who, due to time and money, seek to reach points of interest in Yucatán, Campeche, and Quintana Roo more quickly. Poot Sosa elaborated that it is important to improve the service of the Tren Maya, to make it a little faster, and to ensure it does not present failures during the journey made by the locomotive so that in the near future it becomes more attractive to national and foreign travelers.
