Cancún Hotel Zone Traffic Disrupted by Motorcycle Rally

Over a thousand motorcyclists gathered for a rally in Cancún

Cancún, Quintana Roo — An impressive gathering of motorcyclists from different clubs was recorded at the entrance to the hotel zone, in a ride that had as its final destination the parking lot of Plaza Grand Outlet on Federal Highway 307, in a mobilization that affected vehicular traffic and caused anger among drivers.

This was part of the celebrations for International Motorcyclist Day, and the organizers themselves reported that there were 1,150 participants who gathered on Bonampak Avenue, at the corner of kilometer 0 of the hotel zone, where there is a gas station.

Although complaints arose from motorists about the momentary closure of the entrance to Kukulcán Boulevard while the contingent began its advance toward the end of the hotel zone, the Municipal Traffic Directorate reported that this mobilization had the corresponding authorization.

Traffic elements reported that the organizers of this mega concentration of motorcyclists had permission from municipal authorities and moved from kilometer zero of Kukulcán Boulevard to the exit toward the airport, then heading along Federal Highway 307.

The corporation did not report incidents during the transfer, but the main traffic chaos was recorded during the concentration of motorcyclists and during their entry onto Kukulcán Boulevard to begin their movement, as this paralyzed the entry of vehicular flow into the beach area, around 10:00 a.m. this Sunday.

The event was led by motorcyclists who are organized in different clubs, primarily with high-displacement units.

Some participants considered that the impact was minimal because vehicular traffic decreases at this time on Sunday and that, in addition, the transfer was continuous along the 26 kilometers of Kukulcán Boulevard, until reaching the bridge known as El Trébol, which serves as access to the airport and the federal highway, on a journey they completed in approximately 35 minutes.

They estimated that 1,150 motorcyclists made this movement in caravan and arrived at the parking lot of Plaza Grand Outlet, while other members of biker clubs arrived at this point on their own, for the development of an event for International Motorcyclist Day, celebrated in Mexico on the first Sunday of December.
