The municipal president of Cozumel, Juanita Alonso Marrufo, along with port authorities and representatives from the armed forces and tourism industry, warmly welcomed the Margaritaville at Sea “Islander” cruise ship. This is the ship's inaugural visit to the Island of Cozumel.
On board the vessel, Marrufo participated in the traditional exchange of plaques with Captain Theodore Mitropoulos. She expressed her pleasure at welcoming the cruise ship, its tourists, and crew to Cozumel, hoping they would enjoy their stay. She highlighted the natural beauty of the island and the warmth of its people, assuring them of a warm welcome whenever they choose to return.
As part of the welcome ceremony, a tour of the cruise ship was conducted. The Islander boasts 12 decks, featuring five outdoor pools, a children's club, a casino, and a three-story Landshark bar. Additional amenities include various restaurants, theaters, slides, giant screens, and a games platform.
The Margaritaville at Sea “Islander” is the second vessel in the Margaritaville fleet. It joins the Paradise, a Spirit class ship with a capacity of 2,650 passengers in over 1,400 cabins. The Islander measures more than 262 meters in length and 32.20 meters in width, weighing in at over 85,000 tons.
The ship, which is registered in the Bahamas, embarked from the port of Tampa, Florida, on June 14th. After a five-day journey, it arrived in Cozumel with 1,863 guests and 956 crew members. The ship's next stop will be Progreso, Yucatan.
