Cancun — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa has called on citizens to report any acts of corruption related to the recovery and return of stolen vehicles, stating her administration will not tolerate officials or intermediaries soliciting money in exchange for returning property recovered by authorities.

The governor made the remarks during an event at the C5 facilities, where she oversaw the handover of 13 recovered units—12 motorcycles and one car—to their rightful owners, all victims of theft.

Lezama told the people of Quintana Roo that recovered vehicles are now delivered directly to owners without being sent to impound lots or generating costs for victims, a measure aimed at eradicating past practices that led to improper charges.

“We are eradicating the scourges, the pain, the corruption. Has it been easy? No, it has been very difficult, and that is why I ask you: if anyone is being asked for money to recover their vehicle or is being given the runaround, report it. You can contact me through my social media with your name and phone number, and I will personally follow up,” stated Mara Lezama.

The head of the executive branch emphasized that the state government is working through the Security Council to combat crimes like vehicle theft and recover assets for affected families. “Yes, and I say this unequivocally, they were victims of a crime; what belonged to them was stolen. But today there is authority, today there is an entire Security Council working for you,” she stated.

She also announced that a specific telephone number will be made available in the coming days to handle complaints related to possible irregularities in these processes.

The governor reiterated that combating corruption requires joint participation between society and authorities, and asked the public to report any irregularities and immediately denounce any crime to the 911 emergency number.

“We are going to deliver the motorcycles, we are going to deliver the cars; we are a different government and I can tell you in no uncertain terms: I may have made a thousand mistakes, but I am neither a thief, nor corrupt, nor anything of the sort, never, ever, ever, will I tell you a lie. I am here to serve you,” the governor of Quintana Roo emphasized.
