Cozumel, Quintana Roo — A man was executed in a shooting on Friday night on a public street in the Flores Magón neighborhood, in a direct attack that triggered a large mobilization of police and investigative agencies. The incident, which occurred in broad daylight, has reignited concerns about rising violence on the island.
According to preliminary information, the victim was unofficially identified as Miguel C., who was left lying on the street after receiving multiple gunshot wounds. Neighbors reported hearing several gunshots before finding the man on the ground and immediately notified emergency services.
Municipal and State Police officers arrived at the scene to secure the area, while personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office began collecting ballistic evidence, taking forensic photographs, and interviewing potential witnesses. The zone was cordoned off to allow forensic experts to work and prevent contamination of key evidence.
So far, no arrests have been reported. Unofficial versions indicate that the perpetrators may have escaped on a motorcycle, although this information has not been confirmed by authorities. As part of the search operation, patrols were conducted on surrounding streets and escape routes from the neighborhood.
This attack adds to other violent incidents recorded in the municipality in recent months, keeping the population concerned and demanding greater police presence.
Residents of the area expressed their fear about the normalization of violence, especially when attacks occur in open spaces and during high-activity hours. The State Attorney General’s Office continues its investigation to determine the motive for the homicide and identify the attackers.
