Cozumel, Quintana Roo — Police arrested a man accused of shooting two dogs, authorities said Tuesday.
The Quintana Roo Public Security Department said officers were on patrol when a resident approached them and identified the suspect, Jairo N., as the person who opened fire on his dogs.
Officers found the man on an unnamed dirt road holding what appeared to be a rifle. During a preventive search, they also located two dogs, one white and one brown, that had visible injuries.
Police seized a black .45 caliber rifle, a black magazine, and a clear Ziploc bag containing 32 lead cartridges.
Jairo N. was taken into custody and, along with the weapon and ammunition, turned over to the State Prosecutor’s Office. Authorities will investigate whether the firearm was used to wound the animals and determine the circumstances of the incident.
