Mahahual Welcomes the First Ecological Cruise Ship

The cruise ship “Mardi Gras” brought over 5000 visitors to the Costa Maya.

COSTA MAYA – On Tuesday August 10, after much anticipation, the Costa Maya welcomed the newest cruise ship of the Carnival Cruise Line.

The Mardi Gras, an elegant 18,000 ton giant and the first ship to claim the name “Green Cruise”. This is the first Ecological Ship in America and is powered by Liquefied Natural Gas LNG.

This luxurious giant of the seas is the first to have a roller coaster on board as its main attraction. The ship also features swimming pools, restaurants, a movie theater and basketball courts, among other attractions.

The Mardi Gras docked at the Costa Maya port of Mahahual last Tuesday with 3,845 passengers and 1,764 crew members aboard. All enjoyed the attractions of both the cruise pier and the tourist area of the town.

It is expected that next August 23rd, the Mardi Gras, together with the cruise ship Celebrity Edge, will dock again on the Costa Maya.

It is notable that during the month of August 2021, 14 “floating hotels” are expected to visit Mahahual, which will contribute to the long awaited economic reactivation of this important tourist destination in the south of Quintana Roo.
