Cancún, Mexico — Alejandro Germán Mondragón, a businessman known as “Lord Pádel,” was detained at Cancún International Airport alongside his wife, son, and a security guard for their alleged involvement in the attempted aggravated homicide of a paddle tennis player in Atizapán de Zaragoza, State of Mexico. The arrests were confirmed by the State of Mexico Attorney General’s Office.
Details of the Arrest
Mondragón, his wife Karla Alejandra, their son Germán, and a security guard identified as Othon were apprehended while attempting to leave the country. Authorities noted that two of the detainees presented copies of an amparo (legal injunction), but the Attorney General’s Office stated it had not been formally notified of the ruling.
The Atizapán Assault
The incident occurred during a paddle tennis tournament at the Alfa Pádel Club in Atizapán de Zaragoza between July 19 and 22, 2025. Viral videos circulating on social media showed Mondragón, his son, and at least four bodyguards physically attacking instructor Israel Morales Hernández. Witnesses reported the altercation began as an on-court dispute before escalating into violence.
In one video, Mondragón is heard threatening Morales Hernández, shouting, “I’m going to kill him!” The footage sparked widespread outrage, leading to an investigation by state prosecutors.
Legal Proceedings
The detainees were transferred to ministerial authorities for further processing. The case has drawn significant attention, with social media users condemning the attack under the hashtag #LordPadel.
The State of Mexico Attorney General’s Office has not yet released additional statements regarding potential charges or court dates.
