Cancún, Quintana Roo — The head of Mexico’s Secretariat of Tourism (Sectur), Josefina Rodríguez, announced that from January to October 2025, there was a 181 percent growth in international passengers on the Maya Train.
During the Thursday morning conference “Mañanera del Pueblo,” the Sectur official specified that the percentage of international travelers transported on the Maya Train exceeded 75,000 in the first 10 months of the year.
She added that hotels, the Maya Train, and community experiences can now be booked through their applications and on the two main train sales platforms in Europe, “which will further boost the arrival of visitors to the Yucatán Peninsula.”
The Maya Train company exceeded its annual goal of 1.2 million passengers—both national and foreign—and projects closing 2025 with approximately 1.4 million users.
Among the new services for the year-end tourist season, the launch of the tourist package “El Expreso de Año Nuevo” was announced, a long-distance service that will function as a “luxury hotel” on rails.
