San Francisco de Campeche — Municipal treasurer Mijail Bastarrachea Castillo revealed that the Mundo Maya group, representing Hotel Tren Maya Edzná, owes the Campeche Municipality approximately 50 million pesos due to a lack of permits including land use change, Municipal Civil Protection assessment, operating license, construction permits, and a fine resulting from refusal to complete the latter procedure before starting construction.

He emphasized that there were notifications to the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) to agree on permit follow-up, as well as inspections where the necessary documentation was requested, as is done with almost all companies in the city; however, those in charge of construction repeatedly refused to submit it.

The municipal official explained that, following the recent approach, the necessary processes are being carried out so that the hotel management can regularize its situation as soon as possible. Although he acknowledged that there are impacts, he stated that authorities cannot be allowed to violate municipal regulations, as happened with the Light Rail.

He added that for Campeche mayor Biby Rabelo de la Torre, it is important to promote development and support entrepreneurs as much as possible; however, the complex’s 24-hour operation and various project additions had to adjust to Federal Government tax changes, so the municipality is applying current law.
