Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Following a violent attack that occurred early this morning in the parking lot of Plaza las Américas in Playa del Carmen, which left one man dead and another injured by gunfire, the Attorney General's Office of the State of Quintana Roo has opened an investigation file.

According to initial reports, three armed individuals arrived at the location in a taxi. The victim, whose identity is being withheld, was leaving the casino and heading to his vehicle when the assailants shot him. In the attack, another person who was nearby was also struck.

Two of the perpetrators fled on motorcycles that were waiting for them, while the third returned to the taxi in which they had originally arrived. The victim was aided by his companion, who attempted to take him to a safe place, but he died before receiving medical attention.

Investigations by the FGE indicate that the victim was a suspected member of a rival criminal group, suggesting that the motive for the homicide could be related to drug dealing. The person who was injured was transported to a hospital, where their condition is reported as stable.

Authorities confirmed that they have solid information regarding the identity of the attackers and those who transported them, all of whom are linked to a criminal group dedicated to selling drugs in Puerto Aventuras, which is responsible for generating violence in the area.
