In the early hours of Friday, a gruesome discovery was made in Playa del Carmen. An alleged group of hitmen left a human head and a threatening message on a blanket outside the municipal cemetery. This marks the first recorded murder of 2025.
The incident took place around 12:30 am on Playa del Carmen boulevard, at the intersection with 82nd north street in the Luis Donaldo Colosio district. Authorities were alerted to the presence of a human head left outside the Forensic Medical Service facilities, which are located adjacent to the cemetery.
Alongside the human head, a blanket bearing death threats was found. The threats were directed towards the loan shark group "Gota a Gota", which is comprised of Colombians.
Upon confirmation of the incident, State and Municipal Police secured the area to preserve evidence. They awaited the arrival of the Ministerial Police from the General Attorney's Office (FGE) to begin the necessary investigations.
The crime scene remains under close watch as authorities work to uncover the circumstances of the murder and identify the victim. The investigation is still ongoing.
This incident marks the first recorded murder of 2025. The previous year, 2024, concluded with a total of 78 recorded murders.
