CHETUMAL, MX. – Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa supervised the comprehensive rehabilitation of the emblematic Concha Acústica park, located on Bahía Boulevard, as part of the public space rescue program “Que brille Chetumal,” with the objective of recovering historical areas and improving community coexistence in this capital.
The Governor highlighted that the Concha Acústica, one of the oldest and most representative meeting points in the city, has been for decades a space for artistic festivals, cultural events, and mass activities. However, she noted that for years it had been maintained in deterioration and abandonment.
“Dignified public spaces are fundamental for building peace, offering alternatives to girls, boys, and youth, and strengthening the social fabric,” affirmed Mara Lezama, emphasizing that this different government, humanist with a feminist heart, works to elevate the quality of life of the population and attend to citizen demands.
In response to requests from inhabitants of the capital, since the month of April the park was assigned to the Secretariat of Economic Development that, in coordination with the municipality, carries out painting work, changing lighting fixtures, metalwork, cleaning, and gardening, with the goal of keeping it clean, safe, and illuminated.
The next stage contemplates activating the park with cultural, sports, recreational activities and community events that foster social integration and return dynamism to the historic open-air forum.
“We want Chetumal families to reappropriate this space, because it belongs to everyone. Its conservation strengthens the cultural and touristic life of our beloved capital,” assured Mara Lezama.
With these actions, she added, we continue returning the shine to Chetumal, and advance in the transformation.
As part of the rehabilitation, comprehensive actions were carried out that include: general painting of benches, tables, children’s playground equipment, planters, metal posts, and the structure of the Concha Acústica; restoration of metalwork, including swings, seesaws, handrails, and side doors; improvements in lighting, with the rehabilitation of six lamps within the forum.
Gardening actions, such as planting ornamental plants, using gravel in the play area, applying lime coating to trees, and general pruning. Deep cleaning, including weeding, mowing, cleaning of planters, green areas, and the central plaza.
During the tour, Paul Carrillo de Cáceres, Secretary of Economic Development; Adrián Díaz Villanueva, chief administrative officer; Nabil Eljure Terrazas, Undersecretary of Government; Juan Miguel Ríos Rodríguez, General Director of Assets and Services Administration; as well as neighbors from the colony participated, who witnessed the comprehensive recovery of the park.
