Search Operation Underway for Suspect

Municipal authorities in Izamal, Yucatán, have activated a regional search operation to locate a fugitive known as “El Flaco,” who is accused of the femicide of his 12-year-old stepdaughter. The crime occurred on the night of Tuesday, December 2.

Authorities Issue Public Alert

The Izamal Municipal Public Security department issued an alert on social media detailing their response after receiving an emergency call. The mother discovered her daughter deceased at a property on Calle 39 between 24 and 26 in the locality.

The alert calls for public cooperation to find “El Flaco,” who fled the scene after committing the crime. Authorities urge anyone with information on his whereabouts or who has seen him to immediately contact emergency number 911. Anonymity and confidentiality for informants are guaranteed.

The department stated that a search operation has been mounted across the region to capture the suspect and bring him to justice. “The safety of citizens is the top priority, and all necessary measures are being taken to clarify this regrettable event,” the published statement from Izamal Municipal Public Security reads.

Details of the Crime

The 12-year-old victim lost her life at the hands of her stepfather, who allegedly assaulted her and then struck her in the head with an object when she cried for help. The blow proved fatal.

Reports indicate “El Flaco” went to work with the girl’s mother but left early, taking advantage of the victim being alone in the house. Hours later, the mother returned to find the property locked. After calling her daughter with no response, she grew suspicious and called emergency services. Police assisted in entering the residence, where they discovered the tragic scene.

Penalties for Femicide in Yucatán

The Yucatán State Penal Code establishes penalties of 32 to 45 years in prison, with fines equivalent to 1,500 to 2,500 days’ wages. These penalties can be increased by up to one-third if the crime was committed under certain aggravating circumstances, such as administering drugs to render the victim unconscious beforehand.

If a relationship of kinship or trust (professional, educational, or sentimental) existed between the aggressor and the victim, the penalty increases to 50 to 65 years in prison and fines of 1,000 to 1,500 days’ wages.
