FPMC Launches ‘Winter Sundays’ Campaign in Cozumel
Cozumel, Quintana Roo — The Foundation of Parks and Museums of Cozumel (FPMC) has announced the “Winter Sundays” program, a campaign that will allow Sunday access to Chankanaab Natural Park and Punta Sur Ecotourism Park on selected dates.
The general director of FPMC, Juanita Alonso Marrufo, detailed that Chankanaab will open its doors on Sundays, December 14 and 28, while Punta Sur will receive visitors on December 21 and January 4. These openings aim to take advantage of the high winter tourist influx and provide local families and visitors with more opportunities to enjoy the island’s natural wealth.
Natural Attractions to Enjoy the Winter Season
Alonso Marrufo explained that Chankanaab offers an ideal environment for a Sunday of relaxation, adventure, and contact with nature, thanks to its emblematic lagoon, snorkeling areas, botanical gardens, and cultural spaces.
Meanwhile, Punta Sur, one of Cozumel’s most important ecological reserves, provides unique landscapes, natural viewpoints, and activities that allow visitors to connect with the coastal ecosystem’s flora and fauna, becoming a key point for those seeking responsible tourism and authentic experiences.
Free Access with FPMC Credential
The FPMC reminded that Cozumel residents who have the FPMC Credential can enter both Chankanaab and Punta Sur for free. This benefit aims to strengthen the sense of community and promote that Cozumel families enjoy the natural spaces that the institution administers and protects.
People who do not yet have the credential can process it from Monday to Friday at the central office, with a cost of 100 pesos for adults and 50 pesos for minors, both with a two-year validity.
Boost to Responsible Tourism in Quintana Roo
The director emphasized that “Winter Sundays” is part of the institution’s efforts to diversify the winter tourism offer and promote responsible tourism practices, in accordance with the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa.
The objective is to guarantee safe, accessible, and sustainable experiences for travelers and residents, while strengthening the promotion of natural parks that distinguish Cozumel as one of the most important ecotourism destinations in the Mexican Caribbean.
