Cozumel, Mexico — The Foundation of Parks and Museums of Cozumel (FPMC) is inviting individuals aged 15 and older to participate in the second edition of the free "Piñatas in Cartonería" workshop. The event will be held from November 18 to December 18 at the BiblioAvión Gervasio, where participants can develop artisanal skills to foster their creativity and open a path to self-employment.
The course, coordinated by the Directorate of Pedagogy and Social Assistance (PAS), is part of the actions aligned with the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa. The purpose is to encourage community participation and generate opportunities for personal and economic growth, according to the FPMC's General Director, Juanita Alonso Marrufo.
Through these types of workshops, the FPMC contributes to strengthening the social fabric, empowering individuals, and promoting local development by providing safe spaces for learning, community, and creativity. These activities allow community members to learn new skills, feel valued, and strengthen their sense of belonging and identity, added the Director of PAS, Dianela Cervantes Chi.
Over the course of a month, participants will learn to make piñatas under the guidance of instructor Marisela Santos, who will share her experience in various artisanal techniques, such as cartonería and creative decoration, which transform simple materials into unique pieces full of color and tradition.
Dianela Cervantes detailed that this type of initiative provides the community with the opportunity to discover new capabilities and leverage them as an alternative source of income, in addition to becoming a space for community, citizen participation, and occupational therapy.
Registration is open at the BiblioAvión Gervasio, located on Avenida 130 between 7 Sur and Miguel Hidalgo streets, from 09:00 to 15:00 hours. Space is limited.
