Ex-Mayor Melchor Gamboa Murdered in Akumal Shooting

Akumal, Quintana Roo — Melchor Gamboa Gamboa, a former municipal delegate of Akumal, was assassinated on Thursday night outside the Tequila Ville establishment. Gamboa had also served as a substitute during the administration of former president Edith Mendoza Pino.

According to initial reports, the attack occurred when Gamboa was inside the establishment. Armed individuals entered the premises and shot him repeatedly. Witnesses reported that the assailants fled the scene in a gray Toyota Corolla.

The victim sustained at least four gunshot wounds, which caused his death before he could receive medical attention. Personnel from the Municipal Police and the National Guard arrived at the site and cordoned off the area. Staff from the State Attorney General’s Office carried out the corresponding procedures, including the removal of the body.

As of now, no arrests have been reported in connection with this violent event.
