Tulum, Quintana Roo — Five men have been formally charged and will face trial for their alleged involvement in the attempted murder of a teenager in Tulum, following a judicial hearing where prosecutors presented evidence.

The State Prosecutor’s Office announced that the suspects, believed to be part of a criminal cell, were charged with attempted homicide against a minor whose identity is being withheld. The case is being handled by the Specialized Homicide Prosecutor’s Office.

The suspects have been identified as Jairo Israel “N”; Andrés Fernando “N”, also known as “Manito” or “Colombiano”; Fernando “N”, alias “Wacho”; José Rubén “N”, known as “Nava” or “La Ardilla”; and Cristian Geovani “N”, alias “Maje” or “Comandante”.

According to initial investigations, the attack occurred on February 21 of this year in Tulum, where the accused allegedly participated in an armed assault against the victim.

Authorities are investigating whether the suspects belong to a criminal group responsible for generating violence in the region. They are also examining the possible connection of two of the accused to other recent criminal incidents in the state.

The judge overseeing the case ordered the suspects to stand trial and imposed preventive detention as a precautionary measure. They will remain in custody for up to two years or for the duration of the judicial process.
