Students and officials at the Organic Market inauguration in Puerto Morelos

Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — The Secretary of Economic Development and Regulatory Improvement of Puerto Morelos, Elena Gutiérrez Briceño, representing Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz, inaugurated the first edition of the academic event “Organic Market,” organized by the Colegio de Bachilleres of the municipal seat. She recognized the initiative for promoting entrepreneurship among students.

“We are here to witness how they are starting with this business incubation, which will surely impact their future. From the government led by our mayor Blanca Merari, we support the creativity that goes from learning to generating their own economy, and in time they will be able to have a public space for their sales,” stated the municipal official.

For her part, the director of Colegio de Bachilleres, Olga Lidia Gómez Novelo, welcomed attendees and thanked the efforts of the students, as well as the teachers who worked to carry out the first edition of the “Organic Market – commercialization of vegetables, medicinal plants, and ointments,” an entrepreneurship that will strengthen their ability to face daily life challenges.

She explained that the activity of the third-semester students is part of the School and Community Program, through the Curricular Learning Units “Ecosystems, Interactions, Energy, and Dynamics,” taught by Professor Minerva Genoveva Hernández Aguilar; “Science Workshop II,” led by Professor Andrés Teodoro Peraza Cituk; and “Archive Management,” with Professor Yazmin Alexandra Peraza Mena.

The project, developed throughout the semester, included planting/cutting, transplanting, and production of vegetables and medicinal plants, used to make ointments in the workshop implemented by Professor Gilberto de Jesús Trejo Caamal. Additionally, students were trained in costs and profits for commercialization, with guidance from Professor Pavel Gustavo Zorrilla Flores. They also worked on creating their own brands and product identification labels.

In the school’s sports dome, each group set up their stalls, offering oregano, spearmint, mint, cilantro, and chamomile ointments, among others, as well as plants and snacks like rice pudding, sandwiches, chopped fruit, and sweets.

The characterization of the young people also stood out, as they used mascot costumes and disguises to promote their products among attendees at the Organic Market.

Accompanying at the event were the director of the Youth Institute, Ernesto León Villanueva García; Aimee Rodríguez Vivas, Secretary of Environment, Animal Welfare, and Sustainable Mobility; as well as the director of Economic Development, Juan Carlos Vega, among other officials and the general public.
