Fire Destroys Four Vehicles at Cancun Auto Shop; Suspect Arrested

Cancun, Quintana Roo — A fire at an auto repair shop in Cancun’s Supermanzana 76 destroyed four vehicles late Tuesday, authorities said. Firefighters contained the blaze before it could spread to nearby homes, and police arrested a suspect believed to have started the fire.

The Cancun Fire Department responded to the scene after receiving reports of flames at the mechanic shop. Upon arrival, crews found a free-burning fire covering an area of roughly 10 by 20 meters (about 2,150 square feet).

The flames completely consumed three vehicles inside the shop and a fourth parked at the main entrance, officials said.

Firefighters deployed three direct-attack water lines to control the blaze, preventing it from spreading to adjacent structures. Crews remained on site for total extinguishment, cooling, and debris removal to eliminate any risk of re-ignition.

No injuries or fatalities were reported, according to emergency services. However, sources at the scene indicated the fire may have been intentionally set, and a person was detained by municipal security officers.

Paramedics, officers from the Public Security Department, and Cancun Civil Protection personnel assisted at the scene, securing the perimeter to allow firefighters to work.
