FIAT Group & Makaro Fund Pave Way for 2,000 Residents in Solidaridad

Over 2,000 residents of six national communities within the Solidaridad municipality are set to benefit from the construction of a 2.5-kilometer-long and 12-meter-wide road. The project is a donation from the FIAT Group and developer Makaro, marking a collaborative effort between private companies, landowners, and community representatives.

The road will improve access to the rural communities of Santa Cecilia, Vida y Esperanza, Emiliano Zapata, Valle Verde, Salán, and Flamboyanes. These communities have been striving to improve their living conditions since 1991, despite receiving no support from municipal authorities.

Despite their location's high value due to the recent opening of the Maya Train station, these communities currently lack urbanization, paving, and basic services.

The communities are located on federal land and have a history spanning over three decades. The residents, mostly informal sector workers, have built schools such as the "Ilario Ramírez Gordillo" primary school and the "Kaxan-Naat" campus in Santa Cecilia, which together educate over 100 primary and secondary school students.

Roberto Núñez, director of the FIAT Group, stated that the road donation aims to improve mobility, education, and access to services, demonstrating a commitment to social transformation.

Fernando Hernández, commercial director of the FIAT Group, emphasized that the nearby developments of Makaro, Salán, and Flamboyanes necessitate that urban growth is accompanied by social responsibility.

Ángel González Rodríguez, president of the Santa Cecilia assembly, expressed gratitude for the developer group's generosity, noting that this is the first time a project of this scale has been delivered free of charge to the communities.

Despite the changes brought about by the Maya Train, community leaders have reported a lack of municipal support. There are no urbanization projects, drainage, or formal electrification in much of the area, even as property values soar due to real estate speculation and the influx of tourist developments.

With the road now under construction and the new opportunities brought by railway connectivity, the communities of Solidaridad are beginning to envision a brighter future. This future is built on alliances that prioritize people and not just commercial development.
