3 House Fires Strike Playa del Carmen in 1 Hour

Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Three separate house fires erupted across the city in less than an hour, engulfing properties in the Los Olivos, Real Ibiza, and In House neighborhoods. While no injuries were reported, the blazes resulted in significant material damage, prompting authorities to issue a preventive alert to the population.

Personnel from the Secretary of Civil Protection, Risk Prevention, and Firefighters attended to the three fires in different parts of the city. The incidents, which all occurred starting at approximately 1:00 a.m., had distinct causes.

The first fire originated from the use of lit candles. The second was caused by a leak in a gas tank. The third blaze involved a fire that consumed a palapa within a residence.

After receiving emergency calls to the 911 system, emergency crews responded immediately to control the flames and prevent them from spreading to nearby homes.

Although no individuals were reported injured, authorities exhorted citizens to take extreme precautions when lighting bonfires or candles, as well as to periodically check gas installations and tanks to prevent tragedies.
