A driver under the influence of alcohol narrowly escaped a serious accident after falling asleep at the wheel and crashing into a pole. The incident led to his immediate transfer to a hospital for emergency medical treatment.
The accident was reported via a 911 call and occurred at the 245-kilometer marker on Federal Highway 307, between Tulum and Playa del Carmen. Due to the severity of the crash, both medical units and the National Guard were dispatched to the scene.
Emergency personnel from Civil Protection and paramedics from Tulum Hospital were among the first responders. They found the driver on the pavement, clearly in severe pain. He was quickly prepared for transport and rushed to a private hospital for further treatment.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver was in a black Ford Escape, with license plate URN-842-K, traveling from south to north. His impaired state led him to fall asleep at the wheel, lose control of the vehicle, and collide with a pole owned by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE).
