69 Million Peso Drug Bust on Campeche–Mérida Highway

Drugs seized during a joint operation on the Campeche–Mérida highway

MÉRIDA. During a joint operation set up on the Campeche–Mérida highway, federal and state authorities seized various drugs and detained two people traveling in a cargo vehicle from Jalisco with a destination of Quintana Roo.

At the checkpoint, personnel from the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), investigative agents, canine teams from the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP), as well as elements of the SEDENA, National Guard, and Navy, stopped a white truck. After an inspection with support from the K-9 Unit, the dogs detected illicit substances hidden inside.

According to official information, the shipment included marijuana, crystal meth, and crack, with an approximate value of 69 million pesos.

At the scene, José Juan “N”, 26 years old, originally from Puebla, and Luis Enrique “N”, 45 years old, from the State of Mexico, were detained. Both were secured along with the vehicle, which had made a stop in Yucatán before continuing its route.

The drugs and detainees were placed at the disposal of the FGR, which will continue investigations to determine the trafficking network involved and the final destination of the shipment.
