Cozumel to Host Caribbean Gastronomic Festival in 2026

Cozumel island preparing for Caribbean Gastronomic Festival

Cozumel, Mexico — The island of Cozumel is preparing to host the fifth edition of the Caribbean Gastronomic Festival at Benito Juárez Park, announced municipal Director of Tourism and Economic Development, Elias Farah Ceh. While official dates are still awaiting final confirmation, the festival is tentatively scheduled for February 28–March 1.

If previous editions are any guide, the event promises to draw a large and diverse crowd — Bacalar’s 2025 edition attracted some 7,500 visitors and featured 19 culinary exhibitors offering more than 40 distinct dining experiences.

For Cozumel, organizers expect over 4,000 attendees, which could provide a strong boost to local tourism, restaurants, vendors, and small producers.

What to Expect

The festival will deliver a rich mix of flavors and entertainment:

  • Tasting pavilions showcasing Caribbean and Maya-style dishes, from fresh seafood to jungle-grown produce.
  • A yet-to-be revealed “guest ingredient” — a recurring festival tradition, highlighting a local product through multiple dishes.
  • A music pavilion, live art & crafts vendors, and stalls offering traditional sweets and desserts, creating a full sensory experience.
  • For the first time in Cozumel, some talks will be conducted in English, giving tourists a chance to learn about regional cuisine and food culture alongside local guests — a feature that organizers hope will broaden the festival’s appeal.

Past editions in destinations like Puerto Morelos and Bacalar have also featured a “Tianguis del Mayab” (market of Mayab), offering organic produce, handmade goods, honey, chocolate, and regional crafts — a great support system for local farmers and craftspeople.

According to Farah Ceh, this edition aims to cement Cozumel’s reputation as an international destination not just for its beaches, but as a hub for food, culture, and sustainable tourism.

The gastronomic festival provides crucial economic spillover: supporting traditional food producers, promoting local ingredients, and offering visitors a taste of Quintana Roo’s rich culinary heritage beyond the usual tourist fare.

Cozumel’s decision to host the fifth Festival Gastronómico del Caribe Mexicano — following Bacalar in 2025 and previous editions in Puerto Morelos — reflects a broader push across the state to use food not only as a delight, but as a tool for cultural preservation, community-building, and economic development.

If you love food, culture, and Caribbean vibes — save the dates. This year, Cozumel is serving up something special.
