Cozumel, MX. – After the conclusion of the year, Cozumel maintains its 85 percent hotel occupancy rate, reported Ediel Jiménez Oxté, general secretary of the Sindicato de Hoteleros Reg 19 of the island.

In an interview, the hotel union leader considered this percentage to be a “quite acceptable” figure, taking into account that the Guadalupe-Reyes holiday season has already concluded.

He indicated that the expectation is for this percentage to be maintained throughout the entire month, so that workers do not feel the impact of the so-called “January slump.”

He added that, thanks to the stability of the occupancy, the 720 union members are working normally in their respective positions.

He highlighted that these are days of “bonanza” in terms of tips; however, the hotel leader recommended that workers save to face, in the coming weeks, the “tourist downturn” that will inevitably come.

“We all know that this season is one of bonanza, where we still have some resources, but it is also recommended that people set aside their savings, because we also know that low seasons will arrive, complicated seasons. So, it is important that today we save, to be able to face those seasons,” he declared.

Finally, he added that all hoteliers complied in a timely manner with the payment of the Christmas bonus, which is why no complaints were registered from the workforce.
