Cozumel Hosts Fifth Mexican Caribbean Gastronomic Festival Despite Second-Day Cancellation

Chefs and attendees at the Cozumel Gastronomic Festival in Quintana Roo

Cozumel, Quintana Roo — The island of Cozumel hosted the fifth Mexican Caribbean Gastronomic Festival on February 21, bringing together more than 25 chefs and traditional cooks from across the state, including some with Michelin recognition, in an event that attracted locals and tourists with tastings and activities, solidifying Cozumel as a culinary hub in the region.

The festival, originally scheduled to run through February 22, canceled its second day due to national security recommendations. However, the opening day met expectations by showcasing the rich gastronomy of the Mexican Caribbean and positioning the island as a destination that combines culture, tourism, and high-level cuisine.

The venue, recognized by TripAdvisor for having the world’s most beautiful beach, enhanced the event’s appeal and allowed Cozumel to welcome top culinary representatives from Quintana Roo’s municipalities.

During the festival, special cruise schedules were implemented to facilitate visitor attendance. For example, the Viking Mars delayed its departure until 10 p.m. on Saturday, enabling passengers to explore the stands and enjoy the gastronomic offerings.

Andrés Aguilar, a representative from the Tourism Department, emphasized that the festival serves as a showcase to promote Mexican Caribbean gastronomy and that its realization in Cozumel was made possible through municipal government efforts.

This edition featured 25 chefs and cooks from the region, along with 50 stands offering tastings. Attendees could exchange their tickets for dishes made with coconut, the festival’s star ingredient, which gave identity and flavor to the culinary proposals.

Although the cancellation of the second day limited the initial programming, the festival achieved significant participation and promotion for the involved destinations, reaffirming Cozumel as a strategic point for disseminating Mexican Caribbean gastronomy.
