Cozumel, Quintana Roo — Public security authorities in Cozumel have intensified prevention efforts to combat crimes like digital violence, extortion, and virtual kidnapping through programs targeting students, parents, and various community sectors.
Francisco Noh Villanueva, commander of the island’s Crime Prevention area, said authorities have reinforced informational talks and awareness strategies to alert the public about risks on digital platforms and new criminal methods primarily affecting young people.
The official noted that recent attention has focused on reports from mothers about a page called “Quemados Cozumel,” which allegedly shared inappropriate content in private groups, compromising the integrity and privacy of minors.
In response, he explained that the case was immediately referred to the State Cyber Police, which is already tracking those responsible and blocking the site or groups where the material was shared.
Additionally, public security personnel are assisting affected parents to file formal complaints with the Prosecutor’s Office and ensure investigations progress.
Noh Villanueva emphasized that such conduct, particularly when involving recordings or dissemination of material featuring youth in school environments, constitutes digital violence and is prosecuted under current legislation.
He reiterated calls for parents, teachers, and students to report any suspicious cases or content that violates minors’ integrity to enable prompt action and prevent these practices from continuing to affect the community.
