Cemeteries are often favored by witches, practitioners of Santeria, and shamans. According to their beliefs, these locations enhance the effectiveness of their rituals, particularly those intended to bring about negative outcomes. In these graveyards, there are often unseen elements that are widely known, even by those who work or care for the cemetery. Discovering signs of witchcraft and other unusual activities is not uncommon.

In the past month, the Calderitas cemetery, located in the Othón Pompeyo Blanco municipality, has seen at least 50 witchcraft rituals. This has caused concern within the local community. In response, the municipal president, Sergio Uh Tejero, confirmed the findings and announced measures to increase security at the cemetery. This includes implementing an access schedule and surveillance to deter these practices.

Municipal authorities have discovered esoteric objects used in rituals allegedly aimed at specific individuals. While the perpetrators and the direct impact on residents have not been identified, the situation remains a source of worry for the Calderitas community. It is believed that these rituals were conducted by outsiders, led by a Haitian man who was reportedly paid four thousand pesos to perform the ritual intended to harm certain community members.

An assistant, referred to as "Don Mere", helps the cemetery workers with cleaning and painting tasks and keeps a close eye on the cemetery's activities. He reports that many individuals enter the cemetery to perform actions he deems inappropriate and disrespectful to a place of rest. "There are many things that people do or leave here; many people do not respect. If you were to see only in the corner, where there is a grave that has a star, there they do many very strange things," he says.

Local residents have also commented that they have observed such activities. Many individuals enter the cemetery to perform rituals or leave signs of witchcraft. The cemetery workers have found numerous items left on the graves. "When we dig, we sometimes see a bunch of those things that they come and throw, but we don't want to touch them because we don't know what they are; they are usually in black bags," says “Don Mere”.

The cemetery workers view these acts as a lack of respect for the cemetery. “It is well known that these are things that people do to wish and harm other people”. They find dolls, photos, animal bodies—mostly chickens—, candles, and have seen people performing rituals inside, especially in a grave that is at the back, in the corner of the cemetery, where the most forgotten ones are.
