Shrimp Fishing Ban Extended in 3 Mexican States

Mexico City — The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader), through the National Aquaculture and Fisheries Commission (Conapesca), has extended the ban on all shrimp species in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea, affecting the coastal zone off the states of Campeche and Tabasco, as well as the fishing grounds of Contoy, Quintana Roo.

The measure, published in the Official Journal of the Federation (DOF), was implemented based on the technical opinion of the Mexican Institute for Research in Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture (IMIPAS) to promote the responsible and sustainable use of this important fishery resource.

Consequently, the prohibition period has been established as follows:

  • From 00:00 hours on June 1 until 18:00 hours on October 15 in the coastal zone off the states of Campeche and Tabasco.
  • From 00:00 hours on June 1 until 18:00 hours on October 15 in the area of the Contoy fishing grounds, in Quintana Roo.
