Kantunilkín, MX — A proposal to create a Community Ecotourism Corridor, encompassing the localities of Nuevo Xcán, Tres Reyes, Pac-Chén, and Nuevo Durango, was presented this past weekend as an initiative seeking to promote sustainable tourism and leverage the region’s natural and cultural resources.

Felipe de Jesús Dzib Dzul, head of the Directorate of Ecotourism, presented the project in Nuevo Durango, where he confirmed that the Maya Train will be a strategic ally to strengthen the corridor’s connectivity and promotion. He stated that the municipal government is already advancing an agreement with those responsible for the Maya Train stations at the peninsular level to secure space within the stations where all of Lázaro Cárdenas’s ecotourism parks can be promoted.

Felipe de Jesús Dzib Dzul further reported that the initiative has the support of the municipal president, Nivardo Mena Villanueva, as well as authorities from the three levels of government who have expressed their willingness to work in a coordinated manner.

The proposal, he indicated, seeks to strengthen the community economy through the creation of jobs and opportunities for cooperatives, local guides, and tourism service providers. He affirmed that the corridor contemplates training, promotion, and environmental conservation actions to position the area as a benchmark for responsible tourism in the state.

He emphasized that the involved communities will be the primary beneficiaries of the development, and that their active participation in every stage of the project will be encouraged.
