Chemuyil, Quintana Roo — Residents of the Chemuyil community have protested after state officials closed and cordoned off a site they say served as a public road and parking area due to a lack of spaces in the area.
According to residents, the State Strategic Projects Agency (Agepro) carried out the intervention without prior notice or presentation of official documentation verifying the legal status of the land. They said personnel only indicated it was a green area or reserve space, which is why they proceeded to close it.
The protesters explained that the site corresponds to the street known as “Venado,” which they claim appears on maps and adjacent measurements as a public road. They questioned the state agency’s actions and demanded that officials produce documents supporting the move.
They also noted that the municipality had previously cleaned the site after it was used as a garbage dump. Following that work, residents began using the space for parking due to insufficient areas to store vehicles in the community.
During the operation, some vehicles were left inside the cordoned-off area, causing concern among their owners. According to accounts, when they requested explanations, they were told they could remove their vehicles; however, officials did not specify what would happen next with access to the site.
Residents said that when they asked for more information, they were told that if they believe they have any rights to use the land, they must present the corresponding documentation to the appropriate authorities. They also mentioned being advised to file a citizen complaint if they are not satisfied with the measure.
The situation angered families in the area, who insisted there was no prior outreach or formal dialogue before the closure. They reiterated that the space represented an alternative amid the lack of parking in Chemuyil and called on state authorities to provide greater clarity on the status of the land, as well as open dialogue tables to avoid harm to the community.
