Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Andrés Quintana Roo taxi union in Cancún has opened the process to renew its executive committee for the 2027-2029 term, setting off an internal contest that will be decided by direct vote.

Campaigning among union members begins Oct. 30, and the election will be held Nov. 28, 2026, according to information released by the union.

Candidates and Their Proposals

Julio Castillo registered as the candidate of the “Gold Slate,” proposing a thorough review of how the union operates along with semiannual accountability reports.

Michel Díaz later registered alongside Carlos Arceo, Rosy Zapata and Alejandra Aguilar under the Green Slate. Their proposals include uniting the membership, strengthening the union’s finances and measures focused on the safety of women who use transport services.

Rules for Competing

Aspirants who hold positions within the union’s structure had to resign before Sept. 30 in order to run. The current leadership has identified modernization of the service, integration with digital platforms and improved customer service as the main challenges ahead.

The leadership change will mark a key stage for one of Cancún’s largest unions, amid calls for unity, transparency and modernization of the service.
