Cancún, Quintana Roo — Authorities and public transport operators in Cancún have dismissed rumors of a service suspension, confirming that buses, vans, taxis, and motorcycle taxis are operating normally.
Sources from the General Directorate of Transport and Traffic of Benito Juárez confirmed that public transport in Cancún is running regularly without any official restrictions.
However, they explained that routes in the hotel zone are experiencing slight delays due to security checkpoints installed on Kukulcán Boulevard.
Sources within the Andrés Quintana Roo taxi union confirmed there are no restrictions on taxi and van services from the State Public Transport system, beyond the typical reduction on Sundays when about half the fleet does not operate due to rest and family time.
Finally, addressing rumors of a nighttime service suspension, authorities and concessionaires dismissed any consideration of such a measure.
Crime Wave Following El Mencho’s Death Sparked Alarm
The alleged suspension of public transport in Cancún stemmed from rumors and posts shared on social media and WhatsApp groups, which emerged amid a wave of criminal incidents in Quintana Roo and across the country following the death of the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
Nemesio Osegura was killed by Mexican Army personnel, leading to vehicle burnings, business fires, and other criminal acts that created an alert scenario among the population.
In fact, plazas and parks in Cancún show noticeably low foot traffic, and several businesses have closed.
