Cancún Officials Face Dismissal in Corruption Probe

Benito Juárez municipal officials under investigation for alleged corruption

Cancún, Mexico — The Benito Juárez municipality has initiated administrative procedures to dismiss officials from the Civil Registry and Fiscalization departments following citizen complaints about alleged corruption through the “Zero Corruption” campaign’s QR code.

“These involve Fiscalization and Civil Registry. We have these cases where the entire procedure is being carried out. The personnel have already been separated from their positions, they are not performing functions, but the procedure for their dismissal is being carried out,” explained Benito Juárez municipal president Ana Patricia Peralta de la Peña.

The mayor indicated that different investigation processes are being conducted related to abuse of authority, in addition to corruption, so if they are found responsible for any illegal act, corresponding sanctions will be imposed.

It should be recalled that in recent weeks there have been various allegations about alleged irregularities within the Benito Juárez civil registry that would involve officials of various hierarchies.

“We will not tolerate any act of corruption by anyone, and what we ask is for complaints. Corruption comes in two ways and Cancún residents must report it,” she added.

Following Tuesday’s City Council session, Peralta de la Peña announced that the Christmas Village activities at Malecón Tajamar will begin next Friday, remaining open to the public until January 6.

In addition to mechanical games, cultural stands, and the ice rink, local businesses will participate in selling food and artisanal products related to the festivities.

“We are reviewing prices, especially for food, and also for games. We are regulating this so no one is surprised and complains about being overcharged,” she said.
