Cancún, Quintana Roo — Cancún Mayor Ana Paty Peralta has unveiled plans for a significant modernization of the city’s primary entrance via the Mérida free highway, marking one of the most important infrastructure projects of the year. The announcement was made during an inspection tour of the project’s starting point, accompanied by Samantha Hernández Cardeña, Secretary of Public Works and Services.
Key Details of the Modernization Plan
The project will involve the complete repaving of a 1.3-kilometer stretch, expanding the current roadway from a single lane to two lanes. The existing 3.5-meter-wide lanes will be widened to 6.5 meters to improve traffic flow.
“These are the kinds of projects that define the governments of the Fourth Transformation—projects that connect, resolve issues, and address historical debts to our people. With this transformation, Cancún unites us,” Peralta stated.
Additional Improvements
The modernization will also include:
- Installation of new public lighting
- Roadway markings (balizamiento)
- Modifications to U-turn lanes with reinforced shoulders for enhanced safety
Peralta emphasized that the administration will prioritize high-quality materials to ensure long-term durability and maximum benefit for residents.
The project focuses on the stretch from the highway interchange to the beginning of the federal roadway segment, a critical access point for the city.
The announcement underscores the municipal government’s commitment to infrastructure upgrades under the Fourth Transformation framework.
