Cancún Kicks Off Fiestas Patrias 2026 With Flag-Raising Ceremony

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Municipal authorities in Benito Juárez kicked off the city’s “Fiestas Patrias Cancún 2026” celebrations with a flag-raising ceremony at the Plaza de la Reforma of the municipal palace.

City Administrator Nora Viviana Espinosa Hernández, representing interim Mayor Landy Guadalupe Canché Pantoja, led the civic ceremony and stressed the importance of the occasion for remembering Mexico’s history and identity.

“Today at the start of September, from this corner of the Caribbean, let us celebrate with our hearts held high the privilege of belonging to this great country, because Mexico is not only a territory, it is memory, culture, identity, pride and hope,” Espinosa said.

The flag was raised by an honor guard from the CBTIS No. 111 “Leona Vicario” technical high school, accompanied by the school’s marching band. Student Grisel Paloma Lozano Gómez recited the pledge to the flag.

With the Municipal Orchestra of Benito Juárez playing, attendees sang the Quintana Roo state anthem and Mexico’s national anthem.

As part of the cultural segment, charro Kevin Gael Escalante Padilla, from the Santa Isabel de Bonfil Association of Charros, performed rope tricks for the crowd.

Officials in attendance included Secretary General Pablo Gutiérrez Fernández; Public Security Secretary Jaime Padilla Barrientos; councilors Marcos Basilio Saldívar and Lorena Manjarrez Cardona, along with students and teachers from local schools and members of civic associations representing Oaxacan, Guerrero, Yucatecan and Indigenous groups.
