Inspection Boosts Efficiency at Cancún Airport

A team of authorities from various Mexican agencies, including the SICT, Sedena, National Guard, Migration, AFAC, IMOVEQROO, SEDETUR, and Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, recently conducted an inspection of Cancún International Airport. The aim of the visit was to identify areas for improvement and streamline operations at the airport, which caters to over 21 million tourists annually and handles between 40,000 to 60,000 passengers daily. The focus was on enhancing the overall tourist experience, including airport transportation, mobility, migration processes, security, baggage handling, and customs procedures.

The team thoroughly inspected the migration filters, entry procedures, access times, baggage area, and inspection processes. They also evaluated the entrances and exits for visitors and transportation options. The goal was to strengthen these areas and provide superior service to the residents of Quintana Roo, as well as the tourists who visit the state. The aim is to ensure that visitors have a top-notch experience, befitting Quintana Roo's status as a globally recognized, cutting-edge tourist destination in the New Era of Mexican Caribbean Tourism.

In the previous year, Cancún Airport recorded 32.7 million passengers, averaging around 2.7 million per month, and between 40,000 to 60,000 per day. The airport handles approximately 60,000 suitcases daily, with 51 airlines connecting to 120 cities worldwide. The average occupancy rate at these destinations is 72.3%. These figures underscore the importance of Cancún airport.

The inspection was an unannounced visit, intended to assess the airport's actual operations and inform future decision-making. Following the inspection, the second session of the Mexican Caribbean Hotel Council was held. The council reviewed migration, mobility, security, docks, cruises, and infrastructure issues. Deputy Minister Rogelio Jiménez Pons was also in attendance. The participants agreed on the significant role Cancún International Airport plays for Quintana Roo and Mexico, especially in the context of a new era of tourism promotion. Key topics discussed included tourist services, process efficiency, transportation from the airport to destinations, safety, and transportation diversification.
