Cancún Among Top Destinations for Domestic and International Tourists
Quintana Roo maintains its national tourism leadership, reaching 24.4 million domestic and international passengers between January and October of this year, according to data from the State Secretariat of Tourism (Sedetur). This figure confirms the state as the main entry point for international tourism in Mexico.
During this period, Cancún International Airport positioned itself again as the country’s second busiest air terminal, only behind Mexico City International Airport (AICM), which recorded 36.9 million passengers.
The air flow in Cancún reflects the high demand for Quintana Roo’s 12 tourist destinations, recognized for their hospitality, gastronomy, world-class beaches, jungles, cenotes, and archaeological zones.
Cancún receives thousands of tourists through its International Airport. The state tourism secretary, Bernardo Cueto Riestra, highlighted that this growth is supported by coordination between federal and state authorities and airport operators, who have reinforced strategies to improve service times and the travel experience of visitors.
These actions have allowed Cancún International Airport to remain as one of the most important in the country and the main access point for millions of tourists who each year generate significant economic spillover. This momentum aligns with the New Era of Tourism promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, focused on achieving sustainable growth and shared prosperity for Quintana Roo families.
