“Cancun Peace Fair Promotes Social Change – See How!”

A group of people, including military personnel, police officers, and civilians, gathered at an outdoor event with a mascot.

Cancun recently became the host of the Peace Fair, a special event aimed at fostering peace and social improvement in 50 priority municipalities. The event is part of the federal government's peace-building strategy.

Martha López López, head of the Peace Tables Unit and representative of the federal Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez, highlighted the significance of the fair. She emphasized the importance of addressing the needs of the population through the various services offered at the event.

She explained, "These fairs are a collaborative effort of federal, state, and municipal agencies. It's not just about setting up our stands, it's about providing support and supplying all the necessary elements to the community." López López noted that over 20 such fairs have been held, involving more than 35 departments from all levels of government.

In addition to this, voluntary disarmament is also carried out at these fairs, removing potential weapons from homes and reducing the risk of crime. Daily state and regional Security Tables are organized to analyze crime rates, implement operations, and monitor these actions.

Alejandro Cárdenas Camacho, General Director of Legal Affairs of the National DIF, stated that peace-building is a priority for the current federal government. He stressed that to improve conditions, it's crucial to address the root causes of social issues.

Camacho said, "We are very clear that the goal is to achieve peace, by building care and attention models for all the country's priority groups. This includes historically excluded groups such as children, adolescents, women, the elderly, people with disabilities, and of course, the poor."
