Top Tennis Stars Compete in Cancún ATP Challenger

Cancún, Mexico — The Cancún Country Open ATP Challenger 125, featuring 73 players from 29 countries, is poised to become the most significant tennis event in southeastern Mexico. The tournament, scheduled from August 11 to 17, will include eight top-100 ranked players, Swiss star Stan Wawrinka—a former world No. 3—and Mexican contenders Rodrigo Pacheco and Alex Hernández.

Tournament Draw Revealed

The official draw ceremony took place this morning at the tournament venue, with Daniel Langre, the event director, leading proceedings alongside ATP supervisor Anne Bees and head referee Hugo Castillo.

Germany’s Daniel Altmaier was confirmed as the top seed, followed by France’s Arthur Cazaux as the second seed. Stan Wawrinka, granted a wild card entry, will debut against a qualifier.

Mexican players Rodrigo Pacheco and Alex Hernández were placed as the 12th seed and an unseeded competitor, respectively. Pacheco will face Argentina’s Marco Trungelliti in his opening match, while Hernández takes on Kazakhstan’s Dalibor Surcina.

Other notable participants include Dutch player Jesper de Jong, seeded third, and Argentina’s Juan Manuel Cerúndolo, the fourth seed.

Qualifying Rounds and Main Event

The qualifying rounds (Qualy) will be held on Monday and Tuesday to determine the final four players advancing to the main draw. The primary competition begins Wednesday, August 13, culminating in the championship match on Sunday, August 17.

Organizers have emphasized the tournament’s prestige, labeling it a landmark event for Mexican and international tennis.
