Cancún, Mexico — Seventeen new flights will be incorporated to Cancún International Airport by the end of 2025 and during the first quarter of next year, primarily from the United States and Canada, with the aim of reinforcing connectivity for the summer of 2026.

Bernardo Cueto Riestra, Secretary of Tourism for Quintana Roo, explained that among the main announcements is that of Sun Country, from the city of Tulsa, to increase connectivity with the United States, whose first international flight is precisely to the Mexican Caribbean.

“First of all, 2026 is starting to move, American Airlines announces more frequencies, and then there is the new connectivity from Tulsa, a small city that had never had international flights, and the first one is to Cancún, operated by Sun Country,” Cueto Riestra said.

Another highlighted flight is that of Aer Lingus, from Ireland, which opens a whole spectrum of connectivity from that European region, in addition to United Airlines, which, while not announcing new flights, does increase frequencies from the main cities of the United States.

With these new flights, the expectation for 2026 of being able to attract at least 1 million additional tourists to those Quintana Roo receives annually is strengthened.

Just for the end of this year, it is already guaranteed that Quintana Roo will close the year with more than 20 million tourists, matching the record of 2024.

Cueto Riestra acknowledged that it was a complicated year, but the end of the year demonstrates the resilience of Quintana Roo’s tourism industry, as it also grows in tourist offerings, which implies increasing the flow of tourists next year to maintain high occupancy levels.

The efforts being made also highlight a connection with Cozumel from Calgary, as well as Viva Aerobús from Saltillo.

According to data from the Sedetur, there are 47 airlines currently connected to Cancún Airport, with the United States being the country with the greatest connectivity with 39 points.
