Cancún Murders Drop Slightly in August

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Violence once again made its presence felt in Cancún during the month of August, which concluded with a total of 21 execution-style killings. This figure represents a slight decrease compared to July, when 24 such cases were recorded.

The beginning of the month saw a relatively low incidence of violence, with two victims reported between August 1 and 3.

However, the bloodiest week was registered from August 4 to 10, with nine executions that raised alarms across various points of the city.

Subsequently, the violence showed fluctuations: from August 11 to 17, three cases were counted; between August 18 and 24, only one homicide occurred; and in the final week of the month, from August 25 to 31, six executions were reported, confirming an uptick in the final days.

Although the monthly figure was lower compared to July, when Cancún accumulated 24 executions, the city remains the most violent municipality in Quintana Roo, accounting for more than half of the murders registered in the state.

The persistence of these violent incidents reflects that, despite official operations and announcements of security reinforcements, Cancún continues to be mired in a spiral of executions linked to organized crime, generating concern among both residents and the tourism sector.
