The local government of Benito Juárez is encouraging restaurants to restrict the sale of alcoholic beverages during the upcoming national festivities at the Municipal Palace. Gustavo Fernández Hernández, the head of the municipality's Inspection Department, stated that the request is primarily aimed at approximately 60 restaurants located in the downtown area near Reforma square.

Fernández Hernández explained, "Our strategy is consistent with previous years. A couple of days before, and even on the day of the event, we visit all locations where alcohol is sold. We encourage businesses to refrain from selling alcohol for off-premises consumption." He further clarified that while diners at downtown restaurants are allowed to consume alcoholic beverages, they must do so within the restaurant premises and not take them away.

The official highlighted that the restaurants that have been approached with this request are situated on Nader and Tulum avenues, and even part of Bonampak avenue. However, he clarified that the regulations for convenience stores and other businesses selling alcohol are different. "On Sundays, the law allows establishments like convenience stores to sell alcohol until five in the afternoon, which is the permissible time for Sundays."

Fernández Hernández stated that these measures have been implemented to ensure that the civic event on Sunday evening proceeds smoothly and safely, without any incidents or issues. Benito Juárez's mayor, Ana Patricia Peralta de la Peña, has repeatedly emphasized that alcohol consumption is prohibited during national holiday events. She explained that this policy aims to maintain peace and order during the municipal government's events commemorating Mexico's Shout of Independence.
