Puerto Juárez Aims for Barrios Mágicos 2026 Recognition

Puerto Juárez in Cancún being prepared for Barrios Mágicos 2026 designation

CANCÚN, QR. The Benito Juárez City Council continues refining the technical file to participate in Barrios Mágicos 2026, with the goal of obtaining federal designation for Puerto Juárez.

According to municipal trustee Miguel Ángel Zenteno, specialized meetings have been held for several weeks to compile documentation that will be presented to the Secretariat of Tourism once official guidelines are published.

This strategy, aligned with previous call criteria, seeks to strengthen the destination’s presence on the national tourism map through its inclusion in Barrios Mágicos 2026.

The official detailed that, in addition to documentary preparation, the municipality is implementing urban improvements and infrastructure in the proposed polygon.

Among the actions is the upcoming opening of the Puerto Juárez Market, currently in the final stage of contract signing with selected vendors.

These initiatives are aimed at consolidating the necessary conditions for the community to meet Barrios Mágicos 2026 parameters, while simultaneously boosting local economic activity.

Tax incentives for businesses with arrears or for those seeking to open new establishments are also being analyzed, with the goal of strengthening the area’s commercial appeal.

Zenteno recalled that Puerto Juárez has hosted high citizen participation events, such as the recent Janal Pixán, reflecting residents’ interest in keeping cultural and gastronomic traditions alive—a key element for aspiring to Barrios Mágicos 2026 recognition.

The municipal proposal contemplates integrating an annual agenda of activities that reinforce the site’s identity, as well as representing Puerto Juárez at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) next January. This strategy seeks to reinforce the destination’s positioning before federal evaluation.

It is anticipated that the formal nomination will be submitted during the first months of the year and that the Sectur resolution will be issued in the second half of 2026. If selected, the area would receive strategic promotion and could expand its tourism offerings under the Barrios Mágicos 2026 seal.

According to the City Council, the project has been well received by residents, who believe the designation would generate immediate economic benefits and open new opportunities for those dependent on tourism.

The neighborhood enthusiasm reinforces expectations that Puerto Juárez could become one of the destinations included in Barrios Mágicos 2026, an objective that the municipality states is being built collectively.
