Bus Carrying Mayakoba Construction Workers Crashes Into Resort Wall, Seven Injured

Damaged bus resting against the perimeter wall of the Mayakoba complex after a collision with a trailer on the federal highway near Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Seven people were injured Friday night when a bus carrying construction workers from Mayakoba collided with a trailer and then crashed into the perimeter wall of the resort complex, according to preliminary reports.

The accident occurred on the federal highway just before the ABC gas station, when the trailer tried to merge onto the roadway through a turnaround with poor lighting. The bus, which had the right of way as it headed toward Cancún, struck the side of the trailer.

After the collision, the bus veered off its path and ended up against the Mayakoba wall. A piling in the area stopped its advance and prevented the vehicle from overturning.

The preliminary tally was seven injured people, all classified patients without serious injuries. None of them required transport to a hospital.

Officials said the circumstances of the crash will be determined by the relevant authorities.
