Cancún, Quintana Roo — Christmas in Cancún officially began with the lighting of the traditional tree and the “Burrito Sabanero” at Plaza de la Reforma, in front of the municipal palace.
Municipal President Ana Paty Peralta led the lighting ceremony alongside Governor Mara Lezama, highlighting that the spirit of Christmas seeks to unite the community in hope and solidarity.
“The most beautiful thing we have is that Cancún unites us. It unites us in hope, in solidarity, in the desire to see our city transform,” expressed the mayor.
Bringing Posadas to Cancún’s Neighborhoods
One of the main axes of the December agenda is bringing the celebration directly to the areas that need it most. The municipal government announced the holding of seven community Christmas posadas that will take place in various neighborhoods and superblocks of the city:
- December 7: Alfredo V. Bonfil
- December 13: Valle Verde
- December 14: Supermanzana 260
- December 17: Supermanzana 96
- December 20: Supermanzana 247
- December 21: Supermanzana 227
- December 22: Sacbé
These posadas aim to be spaces for coexistence and joy, filled with music, laughter, and the spirit of sharing.
Christmas Village Returns to Malecón Tajamar
In addition to the celebrations in the neighborhoods, the city will have central spaces for the enjoyment of residents and visitors.
From December 8 to January 6, 2026, Malecón Tajamar will become the epicenter of the party with the installation of the Christmas Village, which will include an ecological ice rink, with the support of Governor Mara Lezama.
The lighting of the tree at the Municipal Palace, which included the iconic figure of the “Burrito Sabanero” and the presentation of the play “The Nutcracker,” marks the beginning of the December holidays in Cancún.
