Cancún — A body wrapped in sheets was located in a green area of the Cuna Maya neighborhood on Saturday morning, according to local authorities.
The discovery was reported to the emergency 911 line by residents of the supermanzana 203, near 20 de Noviembre Avenue and adjacent to the Cecyte school in Cuna Maya. Municipal Police officers responded to the scene and confirmed the presence of the body.
Preliminary reports from the Municipal Police indicate the body is apparently that of a woman. Positive identification is complicated as the individual is fully wrapped in sheets. The victim is described as having a thin build, long hair, and a dark complexion, and was found face down among the weeds.
The State Attorney General's Office's femicide unit is expected to intervene in the investigation, as officers at the scene presume the victim is female.
Neighbors from the Cuna Maya colony reported finding the body and called the emergency number at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
