150kg Marijuana Seized in Playa del Carmen Courier Operation

Authorities conducting drug seizure operation at courier company in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A coordinated action by authorities led to the seizure of a drug shipment at a courier company in Playa del Carmen. The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reported that three cardboard boxes contained green, dry vegetation with characteristics similar to marijuana, with an approximate total weight of 150 kilograms.

The operation was executed by personnel from the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Drug Trafficking, in collaboration with elements of the National Defense Secretariat, National Guard, and Municipal Police.

The events were recorded in the vicinity of a courier company located in the Villas del Sol subdivision, near Loros Avenue and CTM Avenue.

Investigating agents located three boxes that appeared suspicious due to their unusual weight and the characteristic odor of the drug.

After conducting the inspection, it was confirmed that the three cardboard boxes, taped and wrapped, had an approximate weight of 50 kilograms each.

The package information revealed that the shipment originated from Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán, and had Cozumel municipality as its final destination.

The three boxes were placed at the disposal of the Social Representation to integrate the investigation file.

The FGE is seeking to identify those responsible for sending and receiving the shipment, in addition to determining the exact weight of the seized drug.
