Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo – The Secretariat of Sustainable Environment and Climate Change of the Playa del Carmen Government attended to three reports of alleged animal abuse stemming from citizen complaints in a single day, reiterating that response and attention operations remain active during the holiday season.
The first case was registered in the Villas del Sol subdivision, on Carpinteros Street, where three dogs were reported in critical health conditions with an advanced case of mange. Personnel from CENCAAZ managed to rescue one of the canines, who was outdoors and is currently receiving specialized veterinary care due to severe skin pain. The other two animals remain inside the residence, whose owners refused to surrender them, prompting the municipal department to initiate proceedings with the Prosecutor’s Office to obtain the corresponding order and proceed with their rescue.
The second citizen report alerted about an alleged irregular breeding operation of pitbull dogs in the Pescadores subdivision, on Candelero Street. Upon arriving at the location, personnel received no response from the occupants of the property, although the presence of at least two canines inside was confirmed. Consequently, an official summons with folio 1078 was left, granting a five-business-day deadline for the alleged responsible parties to appear before the Directorate of Normativity and Environmental Impact Assessment to clarify the situation.
The third case occurred in the Galaxia 1 subdivision, on Agua Street, where a dog was abandoned by its owners when they left on vacation. The animal remained for several days in the parking spaces of the residence and was allegedly hit by a vehicle. After evaluation, it was safeguarded and transferred to CENCAAZ, where it was diagnosed with a possible fracture in the right front and rear limbs.
Municipal authorities reported that the Secretariat of Sustainable Environment and Climate Change, headed by Samantha Álvarez Hernández, and the Directorate of Normativity and Environmental Impact Assessment, led by Orlando García González, will maintain permanent attention to citizen complaints, highlighting that CENCAAZ personnel continue working without a vacation period to respond immediately to cases of animal abuse and wildlife rescue.
